Instructions for preparing new gears:
All new gear sets need a conditioning period to prevent overheating damage. Overloading or overheating will deteriorate the gear oil, causing the ring gear and worm gear to fail.
Follow these instructions:
- Avoid severe acceleration during the preparation period.
- Keep vehicle speed below 60 mph for the first 100 miles.
- Drive the car for 15 to 20 miles, then stop and let the gears cool before continuing.
- Drive the car at least 500 miles before starting a tow. The first tow should be less than 15 miles, then let the gears cool before continuing.
- Change the gear oil after 500 miles of conditioning, to remove metal particles and phosphate layer from the gear train during the conditioning period.
Gear oil specifications:
Recommended to use 80W-90 or 85W-140, non-synthetic, GL5 or higher, gear oil from a well-known brand.
